The Honourable Robert Rae, Ambassador and Permanent Representative-Designate of Canada to the United Nations in New York
Before his appointment by the Government of Canada, Mr. Rae served as Canada’s special envoy on humanitarian and refugee issues, continuing the important work that he began in 2017 as Canada’s special envoy to Myanmar while also addressing other pressing humanitarian and refugee issues around the world.
Dear Students,
I wish to congratulate you on the wonderful work that you have accomplished through the Social Entrepreneurs Program organized by Ms. Grosskleg at St. Joseph High School.
In September 2015, Canada and all Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the UN General Assembly. This initiative is a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
As the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in New York, one of my principal responsibilities is to work with other countries to help achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Young people, in Canada and beyond, have been doing amazing work to help the world achieve the SDGs. The social businesses that you have been working on are a great example of how young Canadians can come together to make a difference in their communities. Your efforts to reduce hunger through baking and to make equality a reality in your communities have not gone unnoticed.
Félicitations encore une fois ! Keep up the great work! In these challenging times, your efforts give us hope for a better tomorrow.
Yours sincerely,
Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations
Bob Rae
